A magnificent and highly impressive early 19th-century Regency period cheval dressing mirror, crafted from superb-quality, richly figured solid Cuban mahogany and retaining its original mirror plate.
The cross-grain molded frame is supported by exceptionally elegant turned and spiral-reeded uprights with solid reeded intersections, showcasing the very finest cabinetmaking of the period. The original mirror plate displays only slight, attractive foxing, entirely consistent with a plate of this age and adding to its authentic character. The mirror frame is held in place by finely turned supports featuring original finials at the top, wooden knob-style side adjusters, and a turned stretcher below, leading to beautifully shaped splayed supports resting on finely cast brass casters shaped like hairy paws. On the reverse, the mirror retains its original mahogany-paneled back, a clear indication of its superior construction and quality.
Flanking the mirror is a pair of original ormolu swinging candle arms, providing both practical lighting and refined decorative appeal. The entire piece stands on four sweeping, saber-shaped, flared legs, joined by turned crossbars and ending in the original brass casters, giving the piece great presence and elegance.
