Louis XIII sideboard in walnut with diamond-point motif – 17th century

A very beautiful Louis XIII sideboard in solid walnut, dating from the 17th century, featuring the simple yet powerful design characteristic of furniture from this period.

The front features two richly molded doors, each divided into two panels adorned with a remarkable geometric diamond-point motif. The deep, successive moldings lend great depth to the front and particularly highlight the walnut’s beautiful, warm patina. This diamond-point motif is indeed very characteristic of Louis XIII furniture.

The sides are also meticulously crafted and feature large, molded rectangular panels, attesting to the high quality of the craftsmanship. The piece rests at the front on two turned legs with flattened ball finials, in the style of the “rave” legs used in the 17th century.

Also noteworthy are the original iron dowels, the cut-out keyhole, and the wide planks visible on the back, all of which contribute to the piece’s antique character.

The interior offers ample storage space with a shelf. It was later lined with fabric, which can be easily removed if one wishes to restore a more traditional appearance.

This sideboard has a striking presence despite its relatively modest dimensions. Its particularly decorative front, the quality of its moldings, and the beautiful color of its walnut make it a superb example of 17th-century Louis XIII furniture.
