Small Wrought-iron Chest - Nuremberg, Germany - Circa 1600

A rare wrought-iron chest from Nuremberg, dating from the early 17th century. Rectangular in shape, it features a sturdy construction of sheet metal and riveted components, with a slightly sloped domed lid fitted with a ring handle. The sides are adorned with downward-curving ring handles, and the base is embellished with openwork scrollwork.

The side panels are decorated with painted motifs, including polychrome coats of arms on a dark background, typical of Nuremberg craftsmanship from this period. The interior reveals a complex lock mechanism, with plates and moving parts, characteristic of 17th-century German security boxes.
