A superb, large gouache painting by Henri-Pierre LEJEUNE (1881–1961). A French painter best known for his seascapes but also for his travel-themed works. He began exhibiting in 1902, spent five years in North America, and participated in the Salon des Indépendants starting in 1910, as well as in various Parisian art shows. His works are housed in museums in Vannes and Poitiers.
As for this painting, it depicts a young couple having tea while a woman behind a window watches them curiously. The garden, beautifully adorned with wisteria and hydrangeas, along with the light and blue tones, are entirely characteristic of Lejeune’s work. A high-quality piece in very good condition, signed lower right and presented in a modern frame
