This is a beautiful post-by Adolphe Faugeron, who here paints a summer mountain view in Saint-Pierre d’Albigny in 1916—a small town in Savoie where the painter liked to set up his easel; indeed, several works in his body of work depict Saint-Pierre d’Albigny.
As usual, Faugeron masterfully captures his subject through a most subtle brushstroke and a soft, vibrant palette where greens, pinks, mauves, browns, and other hues create a stunning effect.
But this is only to be expected, as Faugeron was a great French painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, first and foremost recognized for his large-scale genre compositions, which he submitted to all the Parisian Salons—a practice that earned him numerous awards.
Adolphe Faugeron exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, of which he became a member in 1883, winning numerous prizes (including a medal of honor in 1907 and another in 1911).
Today, his works can be found in numerous museums, including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
But aside from these large, lively compositions—which brought him fame and fetched excellent prices at auction—Faugeron was also an excellent landscape painter, as evidenced by this small landscape and many others he created throughout France.
