Rafael de Ochoa y Madrazo (Madrid, 1858–1935) was a Spanish painter from the prestigious Madrazo family of artists. The son of writer and art critic Eugenio de Ochoa, he grew up in a particularly cultured environment, surrounded by several great 19th-century Spanish painters.
Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he developed an elegant and refined style of painting, devoted primarily to portraits and scenes of daily life. His works are distinguished by the precision of his drawing, the subtlety of his expressions, and a masterful handling of light, color, and fabrics. He knew how to depict his subjects naturally while paying close attention to their poses, clothing, and settings.
