1920's Dunhill Unique B Straight-arm Gold-plated Petrol Lighter

Artist: Dunhill

Early Art Deco Dunhill Unique B petrol pocket lighter, manufactured circa 1926–1928.

The rectangular gold-plated brass case has gently rounded corners and a finely engine-turned repeating wave pattern. Its compact proportions and precisely made exposed mechanism are characteristic of Dunhill's early luxury smoking accessories.

The dimensions and construction correspond closely with documented early Unique B pocket lighters.

This example is distinguished by its early straight-arm construction. A narrow horizontal bar ends in a compact cylindrical wick snuffer, rather than the broad, flat Dunhill-signed arm commonly seen on most surviving Unique lighters. This less frequently encountered detail gives the lighter additional specialist collector interest.

The lighter has a single horizontal striker wheel. Lifting the arm exposes the wick, and lowering it closes the snuffer to extinguish the flame.

Marked "PAT. No. 143752" underneath and "DUNHILL UNIQUE LIGHTER" on the filler cap.

After long-term storage, the lighter was filled with petrol and fitted with a new flint. It worked immediately and produces a beautiful, steady and evenly formed flame, as shown in the photographs.

The lighter is in very good antique condition. It is clean and appears lightly used, with crisp engine turning and a well-preserved gold finish. Minor surface wear and small areas of patina are consistent with its age.
