Artist: Jules-louis Moréteau
The work depicts a Moroccan landscape scene: “The Watering Hole in Autumn,” in Marrakesh in 1930. It is both located and dated, and is also signed by the Bordeaux artist Jules-Louis Moréteau (1886–1956). Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and a winner of the Prix de Rome in the 1920s, he was a widely recognized traveling painter during his lifetime and received numerous honors, notably through the grants he obtained to travel and depict territories under French colonial rule, particularly in North and West Africa.

The work is in very good condition and accurately captures the autumn light on this oasis landscape lined with palm trees.
