In the foreground, figures in colonial-era costumes and sailors bring the shoreline to life. Notably, an elegant man can be seen scanning the horizon through a telescope, accompanied by a woman at his side, as well as fishermen busily working near a rowboat and casting their nets, while in the background, several ships cut through the waves, including a large three-masted vessel flying flags and banners, representative of the ships of the line or merchant vessels of the late Ancien Régime.
Frame: The canvas is set in a richly carved frame, with a marbled border adorned with gilded arabesque motifs and a gilded wood passe-partout.
