Maurice Maeterlinck was a Belgian writer born on August 29, 1862, in Ghent and died on May 6, 1949, in Nice. He was one of the leading figures of Symbolism, a literary movement that sought to express emotions, mysteries, and the invisible aspects of life.

After studying law, he quickly abandoned his career as a lawyer to devote himself to literature. He wrote poems, plays, and essays. Among his most famous works are La Princesse Maleine (1889), Pelléas et Mélisande (1892), The Life of the Bees (1901), and The Blue Bird (1908).

In his works, Maeterlinck was particularly interested in love, death, fate, solitude, and nature. His style is often mysterious and poetic.

In 1911, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature, making him one of the most important Belgian writers of his time. He remains famous today, in particular, for Pelléas and Mélisande and The Blue Bird.
