Oil On Canvas, 18th Or 19th Century. After Rubens.
An old and partial copy of a major work by Rubens, with a subject inspired by Virgil’s *Aeneid*. Marie de’ Medici can be seen in the background of the original painting, alongside the crowned Louis XIII. In our painting, only two women holding oars appear, each with a shield below them. A dolphin emerges at the bow of the ship.
A powerful and highly decorative work, in good condition. The canvas was mounted onto a wooden panel in the 20th century.
'Beautiful 19th- or 20th-century frame, made of figured wood, in the style of 17th-century Dutch frames.'
