Daum Nancy – Art Nouveau Candy Box With A Lake Landscape Design, Circa 1900

Multilayered glass candy dish by Daum Nancy, made around 1900 during the Art Nouveau period.

Quadrangular in shape with broadly rounded corners, it features a beautiful continuous lacustrine landscape design, enlivened by reeds, trees, and vegetation set against a luminous background in shades of amber yellow, orange, and reddish brown.

The design, rendered in multiple planes using acid etching, creates an interesting sense of depth: dark vegetation in the foreground, with a body of water and blurred hills in the background. The color variations in the glass enhance the twilight atmosphere characteristic of Daum’s landscapes during this period.

The signature “Daum Nancy” is incorporated into the design.

The raised circular collar was intended to hold the lid of the candy dish, which is now missing.

A beautiful specimen despite this missing piece, particularly decorative due to its unusual shape and the richness of its panoramic landscape.
