Louis XIII Chest in Walnut – 17th Century

Beautiful Louis XIII chest in solid walnut, dating from the 17th century, featuring a sturdy construction and a very beautiful antique patina.

The front is particularly interesting for its understated, architectural decoration. It is highlighted by bold moldings, including a remarkable central chevron design forming a V-shape, a feature that lends this chest a great deal of character.

The top panel, made of wide walnut planks, is framed and molded. It opens to reveal a spacious storage area. Also noteworthy is the original iron lock and its cut-out keyhole, both of which are still intact.

The piece rests on four straight legs, extended by a substantial, molded lower crossbar. The sides, deliberately understated, highlight the beautiful proportions of the piece.

This chest retains a superb patina of age, with the irregularities, traces, and signs of wear characteristic of a piece of furniture that has spanned several centuries. The walnut has a beautiful, warm color.

An authentic 17th-century piece, decorative and easy to place thanks to its relatively compact dimensions.
