Large Carved And Gilded Wooden Mirror – Rocaille Style – 20th Century
A very significant carved and gilded wooden mirror, featuring a spectacular decorative composition inspired by the Louis XV / Rocaille styles.
The particularly ornate frame is entirely adorned with volutes, acanthus leaves, scrolls, and foliage motifs that are finely carved.
The upper section is crowned by an imposing openwork pediment with a symmetrical scrollwork design, centered on a floral motif in the shape of a basket or bouquet, and topped by a large upright leaf.
The lower section also features a remarkable openwork design of large leaves and scrolls, resting on a straight, molded base.
The sides are lavishly carved, giving the piece as a whole a particularly elegant and monumental silhouette.
The antique gilding, with its visible nuances, wear, and touch-ups, has a beautiful patina and perfectly highlights the depth of the carving.
The antique mirror glass exhibits pits, discoloration, and traces of oxidation, particularly visible in its upper portion—characteristics of its age that contribute to its decorative charm.
A mirror with a striking presence, ideal above a large fireplace, on a console table, or simply placed on the floor in a classic or contemporary interior.
