Important Ceremonial Cabinet In Carved Walnut—renaissance Style—19th Century

Important ceremonial cabinet in carved walnut – Renaissance style – 19th century

Spectacular ceremonial cabinet in carved wood, in the Renaissance style, dating from the mid-19th century.

Of exceptional decorative quality, this piece features particularly rich architectural detailing, punctuated by powerful turned and carved columns, and panels adorned with foliage, rosettes, mascarons, and floral motifs.

The upper section opens with a large door whose central panel is treated as a true Renaissance architectural element, framed by columns and surmounted by an entablature.

In the center, within a niche, stands a warrior figure sculpted in the round, holding a shield and a spear.

The lower section, which is wide open, is supported by two large turned columns.

The back is adorned with deeply carved panels, notably a mascaron surrounded by foliage and garlands of flowers and fruit.

The interior holds a real surprise: it is fitted with numerous small drawers, whose fronts are adorned with panels of speckled red marble, arranged on either side of a central mirror.

The interior top features remarkable geometric marquetry in the shape of a star or compass rose, crafted from several contrasting types of wood.

The large door retains an impressive antique metal lock, as well as long, decorative hinges that are engraved and cut, reinforcing the piece’s historicist and precious character.

A spectacular piece of furniture due to its proportions, the richness of its carving, and above all its particularly elaborate interior design, typical of 19th-century historicist taste.
