"khosi" Statue, Yaka People, D.r.c.
Statue depicting a genderless figure standing upright. The arms and hands are folded across the torso. Genitals are visible, and the legs are slightly bent. The neck is long and supports a finely carved head topped with a trilobed headdress. White pigment is still visible in the recesses of the statue’s carvings. These statues, called “khosi,” were figures of power and divination.Wood with a patina from use, traces of kaolin.
