European School (xx) - Exquisite Corpse
Oil on canvas. Original painting.
In the dim light of the study lies the crowned ruin of what was once desire: a skull stripped of its flesh but covered with a cloak of marabou and dark feathers, reclining on the worn velvet of a Louis XIV armchair. It is the macabre discovery of a vanity that refuses to die, an exquisite corpse where Baroque luxury and decay seal their ultimate pact. The skull, at the center of this orgy of dark plumage, wears a bony grimace, revealing the great deception of opulence: carved wood, lace, and silk are nothing more than the sumptuous disguise with which we attempt to clothe nothingness.
Image dimensions without frame: 40 x 50 cm / 50 x 60.5 cm with an exclusive, custom-made frame.
