The Rape Of Proserpina Antique Sculpture Terracotta XIX Century Original
Glazed terracotta sculpture depicting “The Rape of Proserpina.” The composition is a scaled-down reproduction of Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s world-famous marble sculpture created in 1622. In the 18th and 19th centuries, several sculptors drew inspiration from this model, recreating it in various versions and materials: porcelain, biscuit, and bronze. Our group, faithful to the original model, depicts Pluto in the act of abducting Proserpina. The three-headed dog Cerberus stands guard. The sculpture has some imperfections, but these flaws do not detract from the piece’s sculptural power or its aesthetic appeal.
