Four Panels In Florentine Mosaic. Florence, First Half Of The 17th Century.
A group of panels in semi-precious stones and rare marbles; comprising four panels set within moulded, gilded frames. The group, consisting of a pair of mirror-image designs, depicts birds perched on a flowering branch, flanked by a fluttering butterfly; the scene is set within a rectangular border and executed entirely in marquetry on a background of inlay. Three of the panels bear a partially legible inscription on the reverse: “B..igida Nucci E..ede Falconcini”. All the frames were originally ebonised and subsequently gilded in the antique style; on the reverse, they bear a fire-stamped mark depicting a five-pointed star surmounted by the Anjou coat of arms, whilst only two bear the Latin phrase “Bartolomei Antoni Loci Tenentis De Buonvicinis”.
