A rare and superb small precision scientific alcohol lamp made of varnished brass and polished metal, bearing the engraved signature “MATHIEU.” on the main cylindrical body.

The renowned Mathieu company, based in Paris, was one of the most esteemed manufacturers and suppliers of high-precision medical instruments, research laboratory equipment, and surgical instruments in the second half of the 19th century.

This particularly compact portable model (15.5 cm) was used to project an intense, pure, and smokeless beam of light, essential for illuminating microscope mirrors or performing precision medical examinations (ophthalmology or surgery).
