Carved Marble Bas-relief - Oriental - Portrait Of A Man Wearing A Turban - 18th–19th Century

Circular carved marble bas-relief depicting a three-quarter view bust of a man wearing a turban.

The figure, with a mustache and short beard, wears a tied turban whose ends fall over his shoulder.

The iconography suggests an Oriental figure, possibly a historical figure or a representation inspired by antiquity. Certain features of the headdress may also recall depictions of Trojan or Phrygian figures. In the absence of any distinctive attributes, however, the precise identification of the subject remains uncertain.

The reverse side of the marble, left rough and heavily pitted, likely indicates that the relief was intended to be embedded or incorporated into architectural decor or furniture.

European work, likely late 18th–19th century.
