Long kindjal style dagger (kinjal) – Persian or Ottoman Empire, 19th century

Beautiful straight, double-edged blade, undoubtedly forged from Damascus steel (wootz); however, the grain has faded over time and is no longer visible. 
The blade most likely dates from the 17th or 18th century, predating the mount and the scabbard.

The handle is made of bovine horn with two semispherical rivet heads on the display side. 

Wooden scabbard covered in green morocco leather, with a steel pommel and ferrule.

Above the ferrule, part of the scabbard’s wood is visible; there must have once been decorative fabric or binding (now missing)..
The two diamond-shaped metal pieces beneath the rivet buttons have a slight amount of play.

Handle and blade have no play; they are solid.
Two small cracks in the horn, which do not affect the overall strength of the piece.
