The Shepherds of Arcadia, also known as Et in Arcadia ego.
Black pencil and stump drawing on paper, based on the composition by Nicolas Poussin housed at the Louvre Museum. Four figures are depicted around a tomb bearing the inscription “ET IN ARCADIA EGO.”
Bears a signature and inscription in the lower left corner, legible as “Ray. Balze del.,” as well as a date indicated as 1867 on the original label attached to the reverse.
The paper shows discoloration and some age-related marks. Wooden frame with a fabric mat and gilded fillet.
