Raoul Mabru (1882–1957) – Old Auvergne Peasant Woman With A Lamb – Signed Terracotta – 43 Cm
A terracotta sculpture depicting an elderly peasant woman wearing a long hooded garment and holding a lamb in her arms. The figure is rendered in a rural and regionalist style, with pronounced modeling of the face, hands, folds of the garment, and the animal’s fleece.
The signature “R. MABRU” is incised on the base. Raoul Mabru (1882–1957), a sculptor based in Royat, devoted a significant portion of his work to the folk figures and characters of Auvergne. A work titled Paysanne d’Auvergne is notably documented as early as 1934, confirming the presence of this subject in his repertoire.
Hollow terracotta, with an opening beneath the base. Traces of modeling, small surface irregularities, visible soiling, and wear. Legible signature on the pedestal.
