Female Nude, Statue By Auguste Carli.
Artist: Auguste Carli
This delicate patinated plaster statue on a marble pedestal is a tribute to grace and femininity.
Auguste Carli (1868–1930), a French sculptor born in Marseille, is famous for his monumental works designed for public buildings, as well as for more intimate pieces, many of which are female nudes.
This statue, signed “A. Carli,” on the terrace is the perfect illustration of this second aspect of his work.
The figure is a young woman reclining on her side, her upper body resting against a rock, her abundant hair scattered across her back. She hides her face in the crook of her bent left arm.
Her hands clasped above her head and her crossed feet allow one to observe the extreme delicacy of her fingers and toes.
To paraphrase Charles Aznavour, the artist approached perfection in “the line of a breast, the curve of a hip”…
He has managed to convey great tenderness and demonstrate deep respect and modesty in this depiction of the female anatomy.
We are in the presence of a truly beautiful work of art which, despite a barely noticeable trace of restoration on one forearm, will be the crown jewel of your home
