"saint Jerome Writing" - 17th-century Painting

A 17th-century painting depicting Saint Jerome the Hermit writing alongside his lion.
He is recognizable by his red robe, his inkwell, his books, and his lion.
In the background, there is a mountainous landscape, a lake, and Greco-Roman ruins.

Saint Jerome is known for his translation of the Bible into Latin, which is why he is depicted writing.
According to legend, while he was teaching his students in Bethlehem, a lame lion approached him. While the others fled, the saint welcomed it. He examined the injured paw and removed the thorn he found there. This healed the lion, which remained by his side until his death.

The painting is in very good condition; the canvas is mounted on a later, custom-made stretcher. Dated newspaper pages (19th century) are glued to the back of the canvas (likely to protect it from moisture in the wall).
