Louis XVI-style Cherry Wood Chest Of Drawers. Brass Fittings Stamped "la Nation La Loi Le Roi" L 134 Cm
Louis XVI cherry wood chest of drawers
Topped with a panel of cherry wood framed by three molded crossbars
It features four drawers in three rows on the front. The center post separating the two top drawers conceals a hidden compartment.
The drawers are adorned with six molded cartouches and three central circles with beaded borders framing the lock openings.
The stamped brass handles and one lock plate are original and inscribed with “La Nation, La Loi, et Le Roi” (The Nation, the Law, and the King), with the Genius of France in the center standing before an altar, engraving the Constitution with the scepter of Reason. This refers to the coat of arms issued between 1792 and 1793, with Dupré as the engraver of the reverse side.
Two missing lock plates have been replaced.
The drawer frames are primarily made of red pine; the tapered side panels end in shell-shaped feet. The back panel is made of oak and cherry wood.
