Carved and gilded wood, 17th century
Dimensions of the statue: Height: 135 cm | Width: 58 cm | Depth: 40 cm
Total dimensions with base: Height: 2.16 m
This 17th-century artwork depicts a Virgin and Child, standing in a hieratic yet majestic pose. Carved in-the-round from 17th-century carved and gilded wood, it stands out for the exceptional preservation of its original gilding, which gives the garments an inimitable brilliance and richness typical of the Baroque period.
The Virgin, with a serene expression, wears a veil and is draped in a mantle with deep, voluminous folds crafted with meticulous attention to detail. She holds the Christ Child on her left arm, while her right hand presents a richly ornamented reliquary or vase. The Child, depicted in a lifelike posture, offers a blessing with His right hand and holds an orb in His left hand.
The statue is in a good state of preservation. It displays the customary wear and maintenance consistent with its age, as well as past restorations that in no way detract from the artistic quality or integrity of the sculpture.
