The ARTIST
Adriaen de Gryeff, also known as Adrian de Gryef, was born in Leiden and son of Jacques de
Claeuw. He became a member of the Saint Luke's Guild in Ghent in 1687, then of the Antwerp Guild in 1700. He
married in Antwerp and then moved to Brussels, where he lived and worked until his death in 1722. The artist is known
for his landscapes and still lifes, particularly those depicting animals and game. His works are
characterized by their attention to detail and naturalism, as so well represented in our paintings.
