17th-century Armchair
A high-backed armchair made of black-lacquered wood with original gold decoration, covered with silk embroidery that has never been replaced. Its condition is touching; it has survived to the present day without any restoration.
Is this an English chair made for the Dutch market, or a Dutch chair made for the English market? It’s hard to say. The Italian-inspired Baroque style was in vogue at the end of the 17th century.
