Eugene Baudin Art Nouveau Bronze Ceramic Vase, 1900 World's Fair, Ref. 1220
Eugène Baudin (1853–1918).
A rare small vase made of flamed and glazed stoneware in a diamond shape, with a gilded bronze mount in the Art Nouveau style.
The vase’s colors range from purplish to yellow-green and blue.
The gilded bronze mount is openworked with an interlacing pattern of foliage and poppy flowers.
Baudin’s signature is incised into the glaze beneath the foot.
Eugène Baudin was also a committed politician; he exhibited his creations at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris.
His most interesting body of work consists primarily of Art Nouveau stoneware, featuring flamed, oxblood, turquoise, violet, and metallic sheens, sometimes combined with silver or gilded bronze mounts. Some of the mountings were crafted by skilled goldsmiths such as Lucien Gaillard, Alphonse Debain, and Marcel Bing.
Date: circa 1900.
