Journet Et Cie Pair Of “athénienne” Vases In Algerian Onyx And Gilded Bronze
Artist: H. Journet Et Cie
A pair of Athenian-style vases in Algerian onyx on a gilded bronze base, bearing the hallmark "H. Jorurent et Cie 24, bd des Italiens."
"Journet et Cie" was a 19th-century art workshop based in Paris. It produced luxury objects in Algerian onyx and chiseled, gilded bronze, often in the neoclassical, Japonist, or Orientalist styles. The workshop succeeded the Compagnie des Marbres et Onyx d’Algérie (originally founded by Eugène Cornu); Henri Journet took over its management between approximately 1875 and 1879, renaming the company H. Journet & Cie until 1886, the year it closed.
The vases combine banded Algerian onyx marble (in shades of cream and orange) with gilded bronze.
Good condition, with some minor, old restoration to the onyx that is not visible to the naked eye.
