Rosary Holder With A Book-shaped Rosary Depicting Pius XI.
The rosary is made of mother-of-pearl and silver, and the rosary holder is made of metal; it is a souvenir from St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy. It depicts Pius XI in profile and can therefore be dated to his pontificate, which spanned from 1922 to 1939; it is likely a souvenir from the early years of his pontificate. The book-shaped rosary holder still bears traces of silver plating, which has almost completely worn away over time; its interior is lined with cardinal-red velvet paper.
