Kiss Of Peace, Silvered Bronze, France, Circa 1840
A Kiss of Peace made of cast bronze, in bas-relief and repoussé, silvered. In the center, Christ on the cross is depicted within a frame decorated with a laurel wreath and angels' heads, surrounded by acanthus leaves and seated women, draped in classical style, one holding a chalice and the other a cross, both gazing towards Christ. The oscillating mechanism rests at the front on two openwork supports and is held at the back by a wide handle. It is surmounted by a fleur-de-lis cross. France, work dating from around 1840.
