The hunting horn is a hunting instrument. During court hunts, the hunt is accompanied by horn calls (fanfares) that allow the huntsmen to communicate with one another and with their dogs.
The hunting horn was adopted by French hunting under the reign of Louis XV and the influence of his master of the hunt, the Marquis de Dampierre.²
Since then, the hunting horn has been inseparable from hunting. It owes its significance and development to the hunting horn.
The practice of playing the hunting horn is upheld by all hunters, for whom it serves as a means of communication during the hunt, but also by musical artists who know how to play it to perfection.
