Adam-François Van der Meulen 1632/1690:

baptized on January 11, 1632, in Brussels and died on October 15, 1690, in Paris, was a Flemish Baroque painter originally from Brussels.

In 1646, he studied under Peeter Snayers in Brussels, then became part of the Antwerp school, before entering the service of the Spanish Archdukes. A master of depicting horses and landscapes, his reputation spread beyond borders, and in 1662 he was summoned to Paris by Charles Le Brun, chief painter to King Louis XIV and director of the Manufacture des Gobelins.

Specializing in battle and hunting scenes, he joined the team tasked with immortalizing the king’s image in 1665 and was granted a pension in 1667. He accompanied Louis XIV on all his travels, to all his residences, and in all his wars. He also created numerous cartoons for the Gobelins Manufactory.
