Biography:
Édouard Paul DELABRIÈRE 1829 / 1910
Édouard Delabrière, born in Paris on March 29, 1829, and died in the same city on February 7, 1910, was a French animal sculptor.
He pursued artistic studies with the intention of becoming a painter. He studied drawing and painting under the guidance of Jean-Baptiste Delestre, a renowned painter and sculptor known as an art theorist.
Married to Anne-Eugénie Alléon in 1868, he was known for his talents as a sculptor and left behind a large number of animal sculptures in bronze, plaster, wood, and terra cotta, which were particularly prized by collectors.
He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1848 to 1898 and received an honorable mention in 1859.
He exhibited his first sculpture at the Paris Salon in 1848, a wax piece depicting a fox holding a hare.
From then on, Delabrierre devoted himself exclusively to animal sculpture, which would make him famous.
An animal sculptor influenced by Antoine-Louis Barye, he created almost exclusively animal groups or statuettes. His cast-iron works were produced by the Durenne art foundry and by the Val d’Osne foundry under the direction of Pierre Louis Rouillard.
