Charles X Daybed in Elm with Braided Trim – Restoration Period

A superb Restoration-era daybed, circa 1820–1830, in the Charles X style, crafted from elm with beautiful grain, richly adorned with flamed and wavy patterns.

The frame features two elegant, deeply curved headboards, finished with scroll-shaped finials characteristic of the Charles X aesthetic. The panels particularly highlight the elm’s magnificent natural grain.

The piece is accented by beautiful dark wood fillets running along the posts, frames, and molding band. This fillet decoration, typical of Charles X furniture, lends an elegant geometric structure to the piece while highlighting the elm’s grain.

The molded belt is also accented by a dark fillet running its entire length. The solid, slightly molded legs harmoniously complement the silhouette of this piece.

A truly beautiful piece from the Restoration period, particularly decorative due to the quality of its elm, its superb grain, and its molding detail.
