Marius De Buzon
Painting dimensions: 74 x 86
Marius de Buzon (1879–1958) was a French painter associated with the Algiers School. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux and later in Paris, he won the Abd-el-Tif Prize in 1913 and subsequently settled in Algeria. He is best known for his landscapes and scenes of daily life in North Africa.
In “Street Scene in Algeria,” numerous figures bring to life a square lined with trees and buildings. The small touches of bright colors and the clear light lend movement to the scene and convey the lively atmosphere of Algerian urban life.
