A Large Renaissance-style Carved Wooden Bookcase Dating From The 19th Century
A significant Renaissance-style carved wooden bookcase, dating from the 19th century, notable for the richness of its architectural decoration.
The front features two large doors adorned with panels of yellow pleated fabric.
The façade is punctuated by three imposing posts carved in high relief: the side posts are adorned with female caryatids, while the central post features a bearded male mascaron extended with motifs of fruit, foliage, and stylized ornaments.
The upper section is particularly elaborate, featuring a wide frieze carved with rosettes set within interlacing patterns, surmounted by rows of denticles, gadroons, and moldings.
The entire piece is crowned by a substantial overhanging cornice.
The lower section rests on two front legs richly carved with volutes and rosettes.
The interior, entirely lined with yellow fabric, features several shelves offering ample storage space. The backs of the doors are also lined with pleated fabric.
A particularly decorative ceremonial piece of furniture, characteristic of the historicist taste for the French and Italian Renaissance in the 19th century.
