Pair Of Meissen Porcelain Vases – 19th Century

A remarkable pair of lidded baluster-shaped porcelain vases from the Meissen porcelain manufactory, resting on sumptuous, richly chased gilded bronze quadrangular bases.

The bodies, set against a deep cobalt-blue background, feature a refined decoration of foliage, palmettes, and frames accented with gold. Each vase is adorned with a large, multi-lobed panel, finely hand-painted, depicting gallant and allegorical scenes inspired by 18th-century taste. The finesse of the compositions, their delicate polychromy, and the quality of their execution attest to the manufactory’s exceptional craftsmanship.

The finely chased gilt-bronze handles are adorned with stylized figures and foliage motifs. The lids, decorated in the same style, are topped with handles shaped like stylized flames.

The gilded bronze mounts, likely made in Paris, illustrate the particularly refined 19th-century taste for combining prestigious European porcelain with luxurious gilded bronze mounts.

The base of each vase bears the famous Meissen mark of crossed swords in blue under the glaze, accompanied by two letters painted in blue, corresponding to the workshop marks and identifying the artisans who participated in their creation.
