Pair of candlesticks resting on a circular base decorated with a frieze of palmettes, pearls, and a knurled trellis.The fluted shaft and the Medicis-style bowl rest on a palmette-decorated pedestal. The burnishing is of very fine quality.
A prestigious model
This pair of candelabra is a variation of a model now preserved in the collections of the Château de Fontainebleau. Inventories indicate that they adorned Marshal Duroc’s apartment in 1807. Another variation also adorned the Salon of the ground-floor apartment in the Cour Ovale in 1810. Numerous models of candlesticks with fluted shafts and inverted leaves, along with their variations, were produced during the Empire period by manufacturers such as Claude Galle and André-Antoine Ravrio.
Condition report: the gilding (original) is in excellent condition, with normal signs of wear and a few small areas of oxidation.
