Antique Oval Woman Portrait Painting, Young Woman, Oil On Cardboard, XIX Century. (qr761)

The Antique Paintings category presents a small oil on cardboard painting in an oval format depicting a female portrait, dating from the

late nineteenth century.

The antique artwork portrays a young female painter captured while painting. The painting stands out for its refined execution, the delicate

rendering of the complexion, and the soft luminosity of the face, features that recall the great tradition of 18th-century French painting.

The young woman wears an elegant black dress with a wide white lace collar and a distinctive light-coloured fabric turban, accessories typical

of Neoclassical portraiture.

This is an antique copy, dated 1878, as written on the reverse of the painting, created as a tribute to the self-portraits of Élisabeth Louise

Vigée Le Brun, the celebrated court painter to Marie Antoinette. In particular, the composition appears inspired by the iconography

of the "Self-Portrait Painting Marie Antoinette", preserved at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, although it is not a faithful copy but rather

a free nineteenth-century reinterpretation.

The artwork is enhanced by a magnificent finely carved wooden frame, richly decorated with floral scrollwork and gilded with genuine gold leaf,

perfectly contemporary with the painting. French antique.

Both the frame and the oil painting have been professionally and carefully restored.
