Antique Genre Painting, Interior Scene, Domestic Interior, Oil On Canvas, Art Nouveau, (qr772)
The antique paintings category presents an oil on canvas painting depicting a refined interior scene with female figures, executed in oil on canvas,
dating from the early 20th century. Art Nouveau.
The antique painting depicts a cozy and luminous domestic interior, where several young women are gathered around a set dining table.
The room is enriched by small paintings hanging on the walls, furnishings and everyday objects that contribute to creating an intimate and
familiar atmosphere.
Particularly charming is the presence, in the foreground, of a cat curled up on the floor, a detail that introduces an element of everyday life
and makes the scene even more spontaneous.
The light in the room, filtering through the window, gives the antique painting warm, soft tones, creating an intimate and evocative atmosphere.
The antique work is signed lower left Marius Barthalot, French painter, known for his marine paintings, coastal landscapes, views of Marseille
and La Ciotat, as well as scenes of everyday life and portraits.
Marius Théodore Barthalot (1861–1955) was born in Marseille and trained in the French academic tradition. He was a pupil of Léon Bonnat,
Alexandre Cabanel and Casimir de Saint-Pierre.
Barthalot regularly participated in the prestigious Salon des Artistes Français, receiving several awards and medals throughout his long career.
He received a mention honorable in 1896, the prix Marie-Bashkirtseff in 1896, a médaille de troisième classe in 1899, a bronze medal at the
Exposition universelle of 1900, a médaille de deuxième classe in 1907 and the prix Albert Maignan in 1913.
Some of his works are now preserved in important French public collections and museums, including the Musée Cantini in Marseille.
The work of Marius Barthalot is today sought after by collectors interested in antique French painting, Provençal landscapes, French marine
paintings and the figurative art of the Belle Époque.
The painting is presented in a beautiful gilded frame, enhancing its historical and decorative character.
The frame and oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored.
