Antique paintings on canvas, still life dated 1887 and signed lower left by Gallian, renowned French painter
of landscapes, female portraits, genre paintings, and marine life.
Lazare Octave Georges Victor Gallian (1855–1918) was born in Toulon and moved to Paris as a young man to attend
the École des Beaux-Arts and then the Académie Julian, where he studied under Jules Lefebvre,
Gustave Boulanger, and Charles Ginoux.
He exhibited at the Paris Salon and then at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1878 and 1904.
In 1884, he received an honorable mention for his work Une bouée, rade de Toulon, which was later
acquired by the State and donated to the Musée de la Castre in Cannes.
He also participated in exhibitions of the Amis des Arts in Toulon.
Many of this artist's works are held in various French museums: the Musée d'Angoulême,
the Musée de la Castre, Cannes, and Toulon.
The oil painting and frame have been carefully and professionally restored.
