Painting Signed By André Even (1918–1997), Mixed Media, Oil, Port Breton Lighthouse
Artist: André Even (1918-1997)
A magnificent original painting attributed to/signed by André EVEN (1918–1997), a renowned painter of the Pont-Aven School.
The work depicts a typical Breton scene with poetic charm: fishing boats beached at low tide at the foot of a slipway and a lighthouse, rendered in a palette of soft, earthy tones characteristic of the artist. Probably Concarneau.
Artist: André EVEN (1918–1997), signed lower right (“André Even”).
Subject: Breton seascape (dock, boats at low tide, and lighthouse).
Technique: Oil / mixed media on paper mounted on canvas (surface reworked with the artist’s unique texture).
Frame: Sold in its original patinated, molded wooden frame with a light Marie-Louise mat.
Condition
Canvas / Painting: Very good overall condition. Colors well-preserved and beautiful texture.
Frame: Good condition with light signs of age that lend it its vintage charm (see detailed photos).
Provenance: a family close to the painter.
Born and buried in Pont-Aven, André Even is a key figure in 20th-century Breton painting. A student of Maurice Denis, he developed a highly personal figurative style, influenced by the rigor of the Primitive Painters and the Pont-Aven School, using a unique grainy medium made from pigments and wax.
Dimensions without frame: 46 cm / 33 cm. With frame: 57 cm / 44 cm.
