Breton Scene
A Breton woman and her daughter watching sailboats out at sea from the coast. The painting is signed in the lower right corner with a signature I was unable to read and is painted on a canvas by Paul Foinet fils, a renowned supplier of stretchers and canvases for painters (particularly Impressionists) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On the back of the stretcher is a pencil inscription reading “L 1136.”
It is mounted in a Louis XV-style wooden frame with gilded stucco, without which the painting measures 39x56 cm.
