Vintage mahogany office armchair, “Return from Egypt”
Front legs in claw-foot style and rear legs in saber-foot style; armrest supports carved with caryatids wearing the nemes, backrest featuring an openwork lattice of crossbars and palmettes and a wide curved band, inspired by the klismos chair model that launched the Etruscan style
The decoration of the backrest lattice is comparable toa set of twelve chairs delivered in 1800 for the Tuileries Palace, then installed in 1807 at Fontainebleau in the dining room of Prince’s Apartment No. 4.
