Antique German Iron Casket, 17th/18th Century
An impressive German (Nuremberg) travel casket (armada) from the 17th/18th centuries, made of wrought iron, with its original cream-and-black polychrome finish. The lid conceals a spectacular multi-bolt locking mechanism, adorned with brass rosettes and finely chiseled ironwork—operated by a single original ring key, included with the safe. Heavy wrought-iron ring handles on either side, an interior painted with red oxide, and a sturdy, functional construction that has stood the test of time. A rare example of early European ironwork and a true highlight for collectors of early German decorative art.
