Antique French Sterling Silver Holy Water Bottle, Locket, Pierced Sacred Flaming Heart Pendant,
A rare and exceptional antique French religious artifact, particularly hard to find.
This is a remarkable silver reliquary or ex-voto, crafted in the shape of a flaming Sacred Heart. It was designed as a small vessel intended to hold holy water and certainly dates from the 19th century.
The front is richly decorated with floral motifs in the shape of branches and bears the monogram “AM,” most likely referring to “Ave Maria.” The Sacred Heart is depicted with flames and appears to be pierced, a particularly original and striking religious representation.
The object bears three small hallmarks on the silver, indicated in red in the detailed photographs. Two appear to be French hallmarks featuring a boar’s head, while the third, located on the silver ring, appears to be a master’s mark that is difficult to identify.
Inside the reliquary is a fragment of parchment or folded paper, adding further historical interest to this remarkable devotional object.
The object is in very good original condition and displays work of great finesse and exceptional detail. A very rare and unusual example of 19th-century French religious silverwork, which will be perfectly suited for collectors of religious antiques, ex-votos, reliquaries, objects depicting the Sacred Heart, religious silverwork, and antique French jewelry.
